My career started as a physical therapist treating predominantly orthopedic injuries in young and old, including athletes for 13 years. Part of a physical therapist's job is to evaluate and treat patients but just as important is to educate and motivate them. Little did I know that the skills I used daily as a physical therapist would become a vital part of a new career. In 3rd grade, my daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia which lead me to become a dyslexia tutor and later certified in the Susan Barton Reading and Spelling System.
A successful dyslexia tutor has to continuously evaluate student progress and find strategies that work for that individual. A good physical therapist does the same, monitoring patients progress to reach the best outcomes. No two patients are alike, and no two dyslexic students are the same. Being a mom of a dyslexic child helps me understand the families I support because I am on the same a journey. Striving to learn more about dyslexia to help my child. My experiences as a physical therapist and mom have translated well into becoming a successful tutor.
My mission is to teach children and their families strategies to overcome dyslexia starting with effective reading and spelling instruction.
